Mid-week Review

South Shields move to the top of the Evo-Stik NPL Premier Division table.

Newly-promoted South Shields moved to the top of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division table following a 2-0 Mariners Park win over a still win-less Lancaster City on Tuesday night, writes NonLeagueToday`s Steve Whitney.

The managerless Dolly Blues proved to be difficult opponents in front of another excellent crowd of 1,151, but two goals within the space of 5 minutes from Josh Gillies on 66 minutes and then Dillon Morse tipped the game in Shields` favour as they made it four wins in a row in all competitions.

However, it`s Bamber Bridge who remain the only unbeaten team in the division.

Brig, who came up with South Shields, drew for the fourth time in six matches with a 2-2 comeback at Irongate against Buxton.

Brad Roscoe fired the Bucks ahead after just 6 minutes when he back-heeled the loose ball home following a goalmouth scramble.

Buxton doubled their advantage on 20 minutes when Liam Hardy capitalised on a mistake on the half-way line and fed Callum Chippendale, who rounded Brig `keeper Lloyd Rigby and slid the ball into the empty net.

So, all to do if the home side are to maintain their unbeaten start.

But it didn`t look like happening until 7 minutes from time when Ali Waddecar was brought down in the box.

Ryan White stepped up and saw his penalty saved, but he slammed the ball home on the rebound.

It still looked like a Bucks win until Waddecar was brought down again inside the area in the 5th minute of stoppage time.

White`s penalty was saved again by Theo Roberts. However, when the ball broke loose, Chris Marlow was on hand to sweep the ball home and earn a dramatic point.

Warrington Town are second after a fourth win, this time 2-0 at Ewen Fields against a Hyde United side who now haven`t won since the opening day.

It was early goals in this game that proved decisive.

Adam Hughes gave Warrington an 8th minute lead that Jack Mackreth doubled just 3 minutes later.

Whitby Town also recorded a fourth win in seven games in beating Stalybridge Celtis 2-1 at the Turnbull Ground.

In-demand Junior Mondal gave the Seasiders the perfect start with a goal inside the opening minute.

Ross Dent pulled Celtic back on level terms 10 minutes later.

But a second for Mondal – said to be interesting several League and Championship clubs – after 33 minutes eventually proved decisive.

Tuesday`s other winners were Stafford Rangers and Mickleover Sports.

Rangers beat Witton Albion 3-1 at Marston Road in front of 483, taking a 10th minute lead through Theo Bailey-Jones.

It wasn`t until the hour-mark that Rangers managed to double their lead, courtesy of a Mike Wilson own goal, only for James Foley to reduce the deficit 6 minutes later.

Lewis Banks made sure the points were Stafford`s with a third goal in the 86th minute.

A goal from Nathan Jarman 8 minutes before half-time eventually settled the game at the Don Amott Stadium in Mickleover`s favour against Hednesford Town.

The game between relegated North Ferriby United and Grantham Town finished all-square at 2-2.

Ross Barrows broke the deadlock 5 minutes into the second half with a 35-yard effort to give the Gingerbreads the lead and Max Watters gave the visitors a two-goal lead.

However, a 89th minute header from Jack Mail and then a late deflected shot from Luke Lofts meant the game ended 2-2.

Colne maintained their unbeaten start to the new Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One West season, but Mossley AFC suffered their first league defeat, writes NonLeagueToday`s Steve Whitney.

However, Colne dropped their first points after being held to a 1-1 draw at the Butcher`s Arms against Droyslden.

Alex Curran broke the deadlock to give the visitors the lead a minute before half-time.

But immediately after the restart, the Bloods were back on level terms through Sefton Gonzales and the Reds weren`t able to find a winner.

Mossley lost 1-0 at Shawe View against Trafford.

But it almost the last kick of the game when Mark Derbyshire scored what proved to be the home side`s winner 3 minutes into stoppage time.

Clitheroe have an excellent record against Atherton Collieries, but they have struggled to get going this season and lost for a third time in four games after a terrific comeback from the visitors at Shawbridge.

Zehn Mohammed gave the home side an early 5th minute lead that Ben Hardcastle cancelled out just 3 minutes later.

But Obi Anorou after 21 minutes and Ian Rowlands right on half-time gave the Blues a 3-1 interval lead.

Connor Gaul reduced the deficit a minute after the break and the Ben Conway equalised after 68 minutes.

Colls led for the first time 6 minutes from time through James Sigsworth and a second for Conway in time added on made it a 5-3 win for the visitors.

Ramsbottom United earned a last-gasp win at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium against Kendal Town.

It looked like being stalemate until the first minute of time added on at the end of the game when Rammy had a corner that was only half-cleared to Ryan Ellison, who controlled the ball and then volleyed it into the top corner.

Promoted Marske United moved to the top of the fledgling Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One East table on Tuesday night, whilst both Stamford AFC and Ossett United maintained their unbeaten starts, writes NonLeagueToday`s Steve Whitney.

However, Marske were held to a 0-0 draw at Mount Pleasant Avenue by newly-merged Ossett.

Stamford were also held, 1-1 at Christchurch Meadow by Belper Town, whose Kai Hancock`s 32nd minute effort looked to have won it for the Nailers until Jon Challinor popped up with the Daniels` equaliser 7 minutes from time.

Tadcaster Albion produced their best performance to date in beating Yorkshire rivals and one of the promotion favourites, Frickley Athletic, 4-0 at the i2i Stadium.

A Joe Lumsden hat-trick after 12, 29 and 72 minutes, sandwiched by one for Casey Stewart on 14 minutes sealed a very comfortable win for Taddy.

Sheffield FC came back from behind twice to win by the odd goal in seven at win-less Cleethorpes Town.

Matt Bloomer put the hosts in front after 37 minutes but a Marc Newsham brace on 43 and 45 minutes turned the game in Club`s favour.

Jon Oglesby immediately equalised after the break and then Josh Batty put the Seasiders in front after 48 minutes.

After that burst of four goals in 11 minutes, it was the 66th minute that the visitors levelled through Julian Lawrence and then Mitch Dunne won it for Club with 9 minutes remaining.

A goal from sub Ben Rhodes 7 minutes from time condemned Carlton Town to a 1-0 defeat at Bracken Moor against Stocksbridge Park Steels.

There was further misery for Carlton when Riece Bertram was sent-off in added time for a second yellow card.

Promoted AFC Mansfield earned a third win in five, 2-1 at home to Gresley FC.

Martyn Smith gave the Bulls a great start with a goal inside 3 minutes.

Brad Wells then doubled the lead in the 10th minute, and although Nick Guest reduced the arrears in the 34th minute, the Moatmen weren`t able to find a leveller.

Wisbech Town fought back from two-down in 16 minutes at home to Lincoln United to draw 2-2.

Tom Garrick after just 7 minutes and then Matt Wilson on 16 minutes had the Whites in command.

Aaron Hart pulled one back 7 minutes before the break and an Adam Millson penalty 5 minutes from time rescued a point for the Fenmen.

Spalding United also drew their first game without manager Chris Rawlinson.

His assistant Matt Easton took charge at Loughborough Dynamo and watched a 2-2 draw.

Jordan Lemon gave the Tulips the lead 3 minutes into the second half, only for Liam Read to level within 5 minutes.

Ben Davison restored Spalding`s lead in the 58th minute, but Dynamo`s experienced striker Ryan Robbins pulled them back on terms on 66 minutes.

Where next?
