Ex-Baggies star set for league debut

By David Watters

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Callam Mendez-Jonesmade is looking forward to making his first start in the EVO-STIK League for Hednesford Town on Saturday after making his debut in the Integro League Cup.

The 21-year-old product of the Baggies youth academy is set to feature in the EVO-STIK League's top flight for the first time against Farsley Celtic after playing at right-back in the Pitmen's win over Newcastle Town at Keys Park on Tuesday night.

Mendez-Jones, who has also represented England at under-18 level and trialled with Cheltenham Town earlier this season, didn't make a first team appearance at the Hawthorns but played in the Football League during a loan spell with League Two side Accrington Stanley in 2016.

The defender was snapped up by Pitmen boss Rob Smith to boost his injury depleted squad on Tuesday before going straight into his squad for the 1-0 victory in the second round of the Integro League Cup.
