Final fair play kings are crowned!

By David Watters

Halesowen Town, Farsley Celtic and Romulus are the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League's final fair play kings of the 2017-16 season!

The sporting trio were named on Tuesday after the weekend's promotion play-offs finals as the league's best behaved sides in April after topping their respective fair tables in the EVO-STIK NPL's three divisions over the final weeks of the campaign.

Handed out every month since September after a totting up of red and yellow cards divided by the number of fixtures played, clubs must play in at least four league fixtures to qualify for the competition which is won by the clubs generating the lowest disciplinary points average. Where tied on points, the winners are chosen after the marks awarded by referees for behaviour in the technical area are taken into account.

The Yeltz under the guidance of manager John Hill were worthy winners of the club's first award of the season after collecting just four cautions in eight games to post a disciplinary points average of 0.50.

Along with Romulus, EVO-STIK NPL First Division North play-off winners Farsley Celtic recorded the lowest score across all three divisions of just 0.20 after collecting a single yellow in five outings with joint managers Neil Parsley and John Deacey at the helm.

The Roms, also guided by a joint management team in Richard Evans and Andy Turner, posted an identical record in EVO-STIK NPL First Division South of one yellow in five fixtures.

Like all winners of the monthly awards, the clubs are in the running for a share of the £5,000 in prize money the EVO-STIK NPL now hands out annually to the season’s best behaved clubs to back the Football Association's Respect campaign by promoting sportsmanship and fair play.

As in previous seasons, the winners in each division collect £1000 with the runners-up banking £500 and the third placed clubs £250. Like last season’s overall fair play champions Bamber Bridge, the best behaved side across the EVO-STIK NPL’s three divisions will also be presented with the President's Cup at June’s annual awards night at Blackpool’s Hilton Hotel.
