N/West Preview: Chance as table toppers in FA Trophy action

By James Gordon

Table toppers Workington AFC are in FA Trophy action this weekend, which gives teams the chance to close the gap at the top.

Marine recently discovered that their club record attendance is actually 6,000, after previously believing it was 4,000 when the touring Nigeria team visited on Wednesday August 31st 1949.

The third-placed side host Pontefract Collieries, who have four wins in their last five fixtures in all competitions, but most recently suffered a 5-3 defeat to Runcorn Linnets in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

Just below in fourth and fifth, Marske United face Tadcaster Albion respectively, and a win for the away side in the Seasiders could see them jump to second place with a plus 10 goal difference over Clitheroe.

At the bottom end of the table, Pickering Town travel to Mossley in search for their second win of the season whilst their opponents sit 13th and have won one in their last three fixtures in all competitions.

Ossett United recently parted ways with their manager Andy Welsh, who led them to Country Cup glory and the play-offs in his first season in charge, and they travel to eight-placed Trafford.

Elsewhere, Droylsden host Dunston FC and Kendal Town face Brighouse Town.

Workington, Colne, Runcorn Linnets and Prescot Cables are all in FA Trophy second round qualifying action.
